You don't just snap your fingers and 'BOOM'..... farm safety arrangements have been addressed and implemented! It's a gradual process and is often a matter of formalising many of the things you already do

  1. If the family dynamic & attitude allows!!.....start with a farm business commitment & some basic rules. Download one here: do-i-need-a-work-health-safety-policy
  2. Next, you need to work out what the risks are on your farm and how likely they are to create injury or incident - this is a Risk Assessment. See: what-is-a-risk-assessment
    • What could go wrong?
    • How is the condition of your plant?
    • Are Augers and PTO's properly guarded?
    • Are specific licences required for your machinery?
    • Do workers have the skills for the work they perform?
  3. Next is an Action Plan that sets out each item that needs addressing or updating.

I offer Risk Assessment and an Action Plan for a fee via a detailed questionnaire of your operation to get you on the right path. If a site visit is needed at some point, that can be arranged.

If you want to do your own Action Plan:

  • Use the quick safety scans in the Farmers Guidebook to help you perform a Risk Assessment.
  • Write down some subject headings and list those items surrounding each topic that you recognise as needing action
  • The Action Plan is a living document, it can, will and should change as you work through each item
  • Don't let the list overwhelm you, it's important to 'break it down' into manageable segments, take it one step at a time

Use the resources in the Farmers Guidebook to help you or other relevant resources: farm-safety-resources

If you would like me to assess your farming operation and provide a Risk Assessment and Action Plan of priority items, please contact me.

  • There is a fee for the Risk Assessment/Action Plan, but no obligation to join my website or engage my services for implementing the plan
  • Everything I do has a focus on teaching farmers to manage their own farm safety arrangements
